Watch your drawings come alive as never before in the art of copper etching! This method of printmaking gives your work a physical presence unlike any other medium—think of the sensual yet powerful imagery of Rembrandt and Dürer’s beautiful etchings. Now, you too can implement this amazing medium at Studio Two Three, Richmond’s only print shop fully equipped to teach copper etching with ferric chloride, a non-toxic metal corrosive. This course will give you a comprehensive survey of techniques used with ferric chloride and their distinctive visual qualities as well as the process of inking and printing copper plates. You will learn how to control the depth, width, and texture of the marks in your drawing, giving your work a unique character with more line variation than you ever thought possible. The print shop is a place of communal creative exchange, so bring a friend – or two!
