Studio Two Three is partnerning with People's Library, led by artist Mark Strandquist, to lead a screenprinting workshop where community members will print prompts for books to be housed in the People's Library.
People's Library re-purposes hundreds of books that the Richmond Library would recycle, sell in the Friends' book sales and on special occasions given away, and turn them into blank canvases for oral history and intimate reflection. Paper will be taken from the books and re-pulped, cut and rebound into covers creating hundreds of new blank books. The resulting installation will feature an open library that anyone, regardless of race, class, identity could check out a blank book and author their own micro-memoir. The project challenges and attempts to redefine the form and function of artistic practice, exhibition, and public space.
The prompts printed at Studio Two Three will be included in each book so each book facilitates an autonomous space for personal reflection, while the collection suggests a comprehensive and challenging image of the community.
